Efforts at our eco resort
Dominica is one of the World’s Best Ethical Destinations, and Rosalie Bay Resort is proud to support its efforts to protect our island and the world’s resources.
Our eco-resort is pioneer on Dominica when it comes to the environment, with the island’s first wind turbine and founding the sea turtle conservation program earning a Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award.
Wind and solar energy
A 225 kW wind turbine, one of the largest in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, together with more than 300 solar panels generates our energy. The solar power also heats the hot water throughout the resort.
Saving sea turtles
Owner Bev partnered with WIDECAST and other organizations to establish a sea turtle conservation program on Dominica. The efforts to protect the endangered gentle giants began on our black sand beach, but has since spread throughout the island and had great success in protecting the nests and hatchlings.

Local and sustainable
Rosalie Bay Resort was built by hand by locals using sustainable and recyclable materials. Talented island artisans hand carved wood into the beautiful furniture found throughout our rooms, suites and offices. Batik artwork was created by artists in Roseau. Handmade gifts in our boutique are created by crafters on island.
Today, the resort continues to be a major source of employment for the local villages and continues to support local businesses.
In addition, meals are prepared with fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables grown in our organic garden or procured from local fishermen and farmers. Other efforts include solar-heated water, UV filtered spring water, LED lights and more.
From chairs made from recycled milk jugs to sustainably-produced cotton sheets, every detail at our eco resort puts the environment first and supports our Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management Plan.
